Desert Rose
Desert Rose
"If there were one more thing I could do, it would be to go on safari once again." - Karen Blixen.
This is an eccentric eco-friendly lodge.
The close attention to detail and isolated serenity makes Desert Rose Lodge absolutely unique compared to other tourist spots in the north of Kenya. Desert Rose does not dominate over nature, it’s an integral part of it!
It consists of five unique houses and two luxury tents accommodating up to sixteen people, two cottages with double beds, two twins and a family house. The houses are entirely secluded, which guarantees comfort and intimacy. All are hand-made and individually designed around various natural features.
WHY DESERT ROSE?
1. “For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return’’ – Leonardo da Vinci
Scenic flights to the Suguta Valley – with one of the most breath-taking views of the Nabiyotum crater, vistas, lava glaciers, colours and shapes that will stay with you forever.
Lake Logipi has thousands of flocks of flamingos painting amazing patterns on the surface of the water.
Nyiru mountains – The last cedar forest in East Africa, and the sacred mountain to the Maa speaking tribes. All important ceremonies, from wedding to initiation (which happens after every 15 years) are held here.
Ndoto mountains – discover the magnificent and rusty ridges of the Ndoto mountains with one of the most amazing views in the world.
2. “A little tranquil lake is more significant to my life than any big city in the world" – Munia Khan
Two-day trip to Loiyangalani gives you a grand opportunity to visit South Island National Park, where the largest Nile crocodiles reside, and a walk around the island to discover the wonders (such as those of an over 30 meters deep crack) in the Park and the El Molo Island, can be arranged.
Central Island, with three crater lakes located there – this gem in the North is sure to leave you breathless.
Additionally, all-day trips to the magical shores of Lake Turkana are something you would not want to miss.
3. Exceptional Samburu visits
They are inaccessible to outsiders but for Desert Rose guests Samburu people make an exception. Cultural visits to the Samburu community enlighten and give captivating experiences on how to track animals on the ground. Visits to their local home steads (manyattas) and acquire knowledge on the various uses of the plantations surrounding the community, some of which are used medicinally.Similarly, visits to the Turkana, Elmolo and Gabbra communities can be arranged.
4. Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail – Ralph Waldo Emerson
There are journeys by road, either to the Northern shores of Lake Turkana for fishing and swimming as well as adventures into this rugged part of the world, or excursions to the extensive sand dunes and overnight trips to Loiyangalani, Koobi Fora, where the origin of mankind was discovered by Dr. Richard Leakey, Chalbi Desert – North Horr and all the aforementioned places in the mysterious north.
